Andrew Howe This Space

In Parallel

This series of paintings was inspired by experiences in the business park and the surrounding edgelands of Shrewsbury.  The exhibition reflects a curated eclectic response to these places, in which the view shifts from everyday details to the wider landscape and its emotional affect.

Layers and montage are central to an investigation of the relations between time and space, and tensions between control and liberty, geometry and chaos, organic and human-made.

The exhibition is a result of a two year research project, concluding 12 years study by distance learning with the Open College of Art for a BA (Hons) in Creative Art.  Contextual research included place and space, site-related practice, the everyday, psychogeography and walking as art practice.

The exhibition featured a book: The Minutes.  Experiences were recorded for just a few minutes at irregular intervals over a 12 month period to build up a phenomenology in text and photographs of the business park and edgelands.
